ich häng mich hier mal dran ... habe das selbe Problem.
Gerade eben von 2.8 auf 2.8.1 upgedatet und wollte das NextGen Gallery
Plugin automatisch
updaten lassen ...
Hier die Fehlermeldung:

...das Autoupdate funkt seit dem
Update auf 2.8 überhaupt nicht mehr
Als PHP Laie stoße ich hier mal an meine Grenzen ...
